Welcome to my first blog post.
Welcome to the Northwich Transition sustainable transport blog. The aim of this blog is to inform, entertain and offer advice on alternative transport. This will be in the form of interesting news from around the world but will also focus on what developments and ideas could work for a rural town like Northwich. As a Resident of Northwich with a young family who need to get around, get the kids to school, get the groceries from the supermarket, visit friends and family in other areas, I understand how difficult it is not use a car. We currently own a Vauxhall Meriva and use it more than we would like too. I would love to own an electric car and have solar panels on the roof to power it, I would like us to use our car less so this blog will chart our journey as a family to more sustainable travel. I am a keen supporter of reducing our impact on the climate, improving air quality locally and having more pleasant streetscapes for our families to enjoy. I believe that by using our cars less, walking and cycling more we can achieve a happier and healthier community. But I am also a realist and understand that there needs to be a real and easy alternative to using our cars.We spend to much of our precious time already travelling to and from work, getting the shopping etc, the train and bus services are inadequate, the cycle paths that do exist are rarely used. But there are alternatives out there and this blog hopes to highlight them, whilst hopefully also offering also offering an enjoyable and interesting read. I hope you can come along and enjoy the ride! |
